Places to see in Paris to enchant and amaze You
Publish on Tuesday, 7 January 2014 in Visit Paris
Places to see in Paris are many and varied. Perhaps our team at the Grand Hotel du Bel’Air might be of assistance in bringing to your attention some of the lesser known attractions of our city. But first, we would like to offer you our very best wishes for the New Year and our fond hope that you will be able to spend some time with us in 2014. Allow us to suggest a cruise or a visit to one of the lesser known but fascinating landmarks of Paris.
Places to see in Paris from a different perspective
To see Paris in a completely fresh way we recommend a cruise on the Seine. Lined with lovely quays and spanned by 37 bridges, this renowned river will send you drifting through 800 years of history. From here you will see Notre Dame cathedral, the Louvre, Eiffel Tower, Orsay Museum and the Palais de Chaillot.
Alternatively, you could take a cruise on the Ourcq Canal, which once supplied Paris with drinking water. Embarking at the Bassin de la Villette, you will leave the city behind and enter a charming world of picturesque stone bridges and rural views.
Not far from our hotel is the Ile de la Cite, famous as the site of Notre Dame, but harbouring another landmark well worth visiting. The Palais de la Cite was the seat of the French kings until they moved to the Louvre in 1358. Today it is known as the Conciergerie. A prison for many years, most notoriously during the time of the French Revolution’s Reign of Terror, today you can still visit the former cell of Queen Marie Antoinette. The adjacent Sainte Chapelle is a masterpiece of ecclesiastical Gothic architecture.
